Angels At My Door

By Deborah Jung

From the Author:  “In the spring of 2008, I authored a book as part of the More Life Festival Project in Fort Worth, Texas.  Fort Worth Opera’s production of Angels in America at the Scott Theatre was the center piece of this festival with over 35 arts organizations across Tarrant County participating with performances, art exhibits, and symposiums designed to create HIV/AIDS awareness.”

 “I was asked to create a children’s voice in the festival that would ultimately become a book.  The idea for Angels at My Door was modeled after the process I use each year to produce original musicals for Kids Who Care’s Touring Co.  We created a children’s picture book based on the idea of angels.  Following a series of workshops with children associated with The Samaritan House (AIDS outreach center), I created a story that incorporated the personal stories of children whose parent (s) have AIDS.”

 Michael Price of the Fort Worth Business Press wrote;

Angels at My Door draws the reader into a world of youngsters who have friends, family members and loved ones with HIV/AIDS. To compose the book, children gathered during a three-day workshop with Jung, who then developed a framing story that weaves the school kids’ writings and artwork into a chorused expression of courage and hope.”

 Since spring 2008, Angels at My Door has made its way to libraries, counselor’s offices, and on the bookshelves of grieving friends.  In September of 2008, Fort Worth’s Downtown Rotary sponsored the purchase of the remaining books to be delivered by Fort Worth Sister Cities International to schools in Mbabane, Swaziland.
